[He needs details on that, it sounds interesting.]
No, and I didn't ask. It doesn't matter what the maintenance is, what matters is if it can be done. If it wasn't remotely possible one of them would've shut me down, instead of just telling me I can't do it alone.
I had an inkling that you would be able to. ;) I'll be there in 15 minutes.
[15 minutes on the dot and the little bell at the cafe's entrance dings softly. one quick scan and he finds Accelerator, bee-lining for the booth. he's prepared to go through the conversation with him as he did with Damian, except he's hoping that the response won't be as uncomfortable. it's not like he expects people to be happy about what he's discovered, but it isn't exactly reassuring, either.
he takes a seat across from him and adjusts his tie. he's used to debriefing, but this is also a social interaction.]
Hello. I can get right into it, if that suits you.
[God, what is that smiley face. What programmer thought that was a good idea? So uncool.
Accelerator has settled in a booth, looking tired and irritated and tapping away at a laptop when Connor arrives. When he sits down, he saves what he's doing and closes the laptop, then waves his hand in a small gesture to indicate Connor can go ahead and start. Whatever is on that computer must be important, so he doesn't want to beat around the bush.]
[unlike Damian, Accelerator has been proven to be a little less harsh, albeit with a mouth of a sailor. that much, he's used to. he holds one hand palm up on the table, a hologram of Accelerator's file appearing. the hologram itself is small, hardly making it past his fingertips and making it near illegible.]
It has a file like the one I'm showing you now on everyone. There are others that I wasn't able to access, ones that were heavily encrypted. The computer uses a language that doesn't exist in my world, and I don't think it's one that exists elsewhere either, but let me know if you recognize it.
[the hologram switches to a few lines of the strange letters with their respective English letters below them.]
I tried to interface with it first, but it caused my system to overload. There's too much data for me to process on my own - it's connected to multiple sources, which wouldn't normally be an issue for me.
[Accelerator leans in, eyeing the small folder hologram and language closely.]
Doesn't look familiar to me.
[He isn't concerned about that. It's not as if he knows every language out there, especially when one takes the multiverse into consideration, and whenever he's encountered them he's been able to learn them without major issues (barring magic's rejection effects on espers).
Anyways, a folder on him isn't surprising. With Aurora and Eos it makes sense to him that Echo would have data on everyone, like Academy City's databanks on its students. More interesting to him is that Connor apparently couldn't process all of it. While he doesn't know the upper limits of Connor's processing power, he knows it has to be really fucking high given everything, so that's both intriguing and a little unnerving.
Then again, if this computer is hooked up to Aurora's network like he is, maybe he shouldn't be surprised?
He taps a finger absently on the table, his eyes narrowing.]
[he doubts anyone will be able to recognize the language. it's probably Etrayan, or something else entirely - what these planets use to communicate alone.]
I'm fine. I didn't sustain any damage. I spoke to Robin about what I discovered and he wants to destroy it, but I don't think that's the best solution. It does receive communication from other sources, but they get erased somehow. Whatever it is doesn't want to be traced.
[He gives a small nod. It's both good to hear that Connor wasn't damaged by it, and gives him a bit more information on the computer itself, since it sounds like there really isn't any kind of aggressive firewall that defends against anyone trying to access the data.
That helps him decide what he wants to do next, and he starts packing his laptop away.]
Okay. You said it was in the basement of the hospital?
I'm going to take a look at it. I agree with you that destroying it isn't a good idea, but if that brat's going to break it I want to see it before he does.
[He grabs his coffee, chugging the last of it down before setting it aside. Taking hold of his bag, he stares down at it for a brief second, before pulling something out and setting it on the table.
I convinced him to wait, but I don't know how much time that bought us.
[it had only taken minutes for Connor to crack the language, but he's an android. Accelerator seems confident enough in his abilities, otherwise he wouldn't be going. he'd ask for help if he needed it, wouldn't he? not that Connor would. he's prone to investigate on his own if he's able to.
the gun is placed on the table and he looks - confused? surprised?]
[he's going to send Accelerator the translation of the PC's language without asking, all silent aside from a notification sent to Accelerator's device.
his LED circles yellow, then back to blue, as he reaches for the gun to inspect it. he's skilled in handling a variety of weapons, and even if this isn't exactly like the firearms he's come in contact with before, it's near-identical.
also, why does Accelerator already have a gun?]
Oh. [fingers graze over the chamber as he contemplates, then decides - fine. the gun is tucked quietly into the back of his pants, hidden under his jacket. a very human reaction, coming from an android. he's done this before. if this were any other moment, any other time, he'd deny it. but after what the two of them went through, it's better safe than sorry.] I'm grateful for it, even though I hope I don't I have to use it. Thank you, Accelerator.
[His earpiece pings at the notification, and Accelerator takes it out of his pocket and puts it on, silent for a few moments as he skims over the translation. Well, this'll save him some time having to translate it himself. He's still frowning, but only because he's thinking Connor didn't need to help him.
He shrugs at the gratitude, clicking his tongue.]
Whatever.
[... And then because this is Accelerator, he immediately launches into an explanation of the gun. Because of course it isn't a normal gun, and he should be at least semi-responsible and tell him how it works.
(And also because he's chatty, sometimes.)]
It's Academy City technology, so it uses a powder instead of regular bullets. The dials and shit on the sides can be adjusted so it can make different kinds of lethal or non-lethal ammunition, depending on what you need. There's an automatic mode, where its infrared sensor reads your target's composition, solidity and distance and makes the bullet according to that data. You can switch that mode off, though, so it's all manual using the dials.
[This is Connor, so he's assuming he'd prefer the manual option.
With all that said, he jerks his head in the direction of the cafe entrance.]
Now come on. I have more questions. [You're coming with him, broski!!]
[no follow-up, because there doesn't need to be. Accelerator is thorough, and it's terminology that Connor understands. he makes a note to practice with it later.
surprised at his invitation, his mouth opens and closes. then, hands press flat against the table as he stands to follow Accelerator out.]
[There aren't that many people in Etraya who Accelerator would trust with a gun, especially one containing Academy City technology. Connor has the background to handle it safely and, well - ... he kind of trusts him, so it'll be fine.
Thankfully, it's only a short walk over to the hospital. As they exit the cafe Accelerator glances around to make sure there isn't anyone in the near vicinity, then reaches up to tap his choker. Might as well start with the big question.]
I'm guessing my file had data on this thing, then?
Some files have more information than others, but they include medical information, personality, likes, dislikes, and short backgrounds of the people here. Your file didn't have information on your choker.
[he's guessing that's probably a good thing. the less the better, in this case. why these mass amounts of personal data are all stored in one place that's possible to access is a bit beyond him. why have them at all?]
[That's kind of a relief. He would've expected the information to be in there, since Aurora was the one who provided him with this choker. This realization makes him hesitate for a few moments -- since Connor doesn't know, it's dawning on Accelerator that he doesn't actually need to tell him. He could keep details surrounding the choker to himself. For once, he actually has a choice in the matter.
That's pretty rare.
But then, the entire reason he's been withholding certain things about it is because it's both a huge vulnerability, and because he doesn't want to drag Aurora into anything. Connor is one of the few people around here where the latter wouldn't be a problem - if anyone's going to be sympathetic towards her it's Connor, so.... it probably isn't a bad idea to tell him. It's like with Asuka, having someone else know in case something happens is a good cautionary move.
(He is refusing to engage with the thought that this requires a level of trust he rarely gives other people. He's just being practical, okay.)]
It's basically a medical device. [He's keeping his voice low, even as they enter the hospital. Once they do, he makes a beeline for the elevator because he's lazy and it's a lot easier to deal with using his crutch than stairs.] It connects me to Aurora's network to support some of my brain functions, because of my damn brain injury. For obvious reasons, it's not something I make public.
[his eyes flit to the the choker as its mentioned, just once. scanning it doesn't pick up what he's used to understanding. it's a new kind of exchange, with even newer forms of electronic energy.]
I can see that. I didn't understand it at first, but I'm beginning to.
[even if he's been in the hospital more than a handful of times now, he still scans for new devices. cameras, bugs, anything. reflexively, he checks corners of the elevator. his scans aren't noticeable, all done out of his peripheral as he sticks by Accelerator's side.]
You have a device in your crutch to interrupt potential interference.
[Accelerator gives a small. Even back home his choker wasn't a typical kind of technology, so he isn't too surprised Connor was still working it out. This explanation must give him a clearer picture of whatever he's able to pick up via scan.
Hitting the button for the elevator, it opens and he steps in.]
I don't make that public, either. [And thankfully, no one has asked about his crutch.] I built this thing after I had some problems with signal interference back home. If I lose my connection to Aurora's network I'm basically a vegetable. She's the only reason I can walk around and talk like this, so it's important I have back-ups and redundancies in place.
